A Whole New World (We Live In)
Oh my gosh, you are so cute!
[In the labs of Professor Iris Hawthorn, in the Ranoh region, a young girl stands meeting her first Pokémon. Penny snuggles her head into the cool, apparently indifferent surface of the Magnemite she's been given.]
[The most important day in a young trainer's life- or rather, the first day of their life AS a trainer. Being trusted with their first Pokémon. The start of brave adventures and dear friendships - and deep rivalries.]
...I'll have to think up a nickname.
[Something appropriate for a steel miracle-orb. She turns to one of the other prospective trainers.]
What about you, which Pokémon did you pick?

Purrloin and I are a natural fit, obviously. What are you gonna do with that weird pinball? Magnetize someone into submission?

Maybe! Half the fun will be learning exactly what she can do!
[She gives the Magnemite a small, polishing kind of rub. It buzzes a little, eye flitting around curiously to everything around them.]
But your Purrloin is very nice! It's- elegant.

Looks pretty weak to me. Antonia could beat her up any day of the week.
[Professor Hawthorn seems to be distracted by whatever other weak little kid is picking out a starter, and therefore Cleo is taking it upon herself to be extra snobby.]

[Also, honestly, all the regional Professors probably expect at least one Gary Oak in each group of new trainers, if they aren't actively cultivating the groups as such. They don't get out much, this is their version of a soap opera, probably.]
We could battle and find out, if you want. We're officially trainers now!
[Hahahaha obviously just a friendly battle amirite.]
